Friday Free Thinking

Are some US cities declining to third world standards?

Welcome to Friday Free Thinking!

In this occasional video series I will overview and consider difficult and complex urban questions and topics. These videos are me taking a bird’s eye view, sharing my initial thoughts, and inviting you to add yours in the comments. Some of these topics might later be investigated and discussed in more detail in a full article.

This episode considers whether some US (North American) cities are in danger of declining to third world standards due to a combination of homelessness, limited access to housing, rising crime, declining social mobility and institutional indifference.
