Sights on Cities presents the writings of Dr Tony Matthews, award-winning urban planner, and advocate for good cities. Drawing on perspectives from economics, urban planning, sociology, architecture, political science, and cultural theory, he emphasises cities as both places and spaces, where two-dimensional design meets three-dimensional reality. Cities are where most human experience now happens globally. Cities are shaped by humans, who in turn are shaped by their cities. Understanding this interplay, and what it means for the cities we have and want, is an overarching aim of these accessible, entertaining, and sometimes controversial writings.
